The Associated Press tapped me to travel to Guantanamo Bay to cover the initial military tribunal against detainees in 2006. During my time there, the Gitmo prison was under construction, a detainee refused to participate in his hearing and the government was forced to release a trove of Guantanamo-related documents, revealing prisoner names and their experiences. I joined the effort from the base to sift through the many pages od documents and to help craft the breaking news story.
